burnatonce development status…
It’s obvious by now that not much time is being spent on burnatonce. This is due to a number of factors, not least being the need to have a real life as well as a ‘virtual one’
The main problem I have with burnatonce is the direction I intend to go would be better suited to a rewrite. For quite a while now I’ve been researching various programming languages to find one most suitable for this task. Along the way I’ve written test apps in VB.Net, C#, Powerbasic, C and even Assembly. However, a rewrite will require me to devote a big block of time to this task - it’s not something that can be done with an hour spent ‘here and there’.
Ignoring the path I want to take in the future, there are fixes that need to be put into place now. However, should I just patch the code up and release it as is - or should I spend time implementing the latest features of cdrecord etc. such as the integrated dvd writing? Again, this would be a task best left until I can make time for a rewrite.
The other problem is that I don’t actually use burnatonce that much anymore - I rarely burn discs as all my media is now stored on hard drives or portable devices. Therefore, any development will be purely for the benefit of others so please bear this in mind when you’re frustrated that no new features have been released for a while…
And then there is Vista, I’m actually running a test install of Vista but haven’t properly tested burnatonce yet. I haven’t got UAC enabled but that’s where most problems are going to arise. Although VB6 is supported on Vista I haven’t been impressed by the IDE when manipulating forms - another reason for a rewrite!
So, that’s pretty much the situation atm. I’m not actually working right now so hopefully I’ll have some time to spend with burnatonce soon but I’m not promising anything..
I’ve also posted this in the forum so let me know your views, I realise the forum is a bit dead since the p0rn bomb hit but hopefully there’s still some of you around.
